Local News

I stumbled upon this picture earlier today and it made me laugh. I got to thinking about local news and if is really an outmoded form of media. I did some research and came across this article which poses another question: Is local news too closely associated with advertisement?

We have discussed the church-state separation of news and ads in class and I personally am all for it. So does this sort of news in which reporters give in depth explanations of a product belong in a different category of journalism all together? Some local broadcasters produce great news, but where do we draw the line between news and simply information?

  1. It is hard to distinguish news from simple information. In order to answer this question we would have to first even decide what really falls under simple news because news to one person can be considered simple news to another. So this sort of news in which “reporters give in depth explanations of a product” can be journalism depending on what the topic is about.
